initscripts-generic

The project initscripts-vpn, which was the primary reason for this package, is not being developed anymore. As such this project is not developed. See initscripts-vpn for more information.

This is a hacked version of Red Hat's initscripts package. It has been altered to allow more diverse use of PPP interfaces.

Below is a summary of all the modifications:
(Deprecated changes)

  • ifdown-post
    • Calls ifdown-post-${DEVICETYPE} to enable special setup for ppp devices. (handled explicitly in ifdown-post normally).
  • ifup-post
    • Calls ifup-routes using the real device name in stead of the logical.
  • ifup
    • Supports having "daemon" as the first parameter (indicating it's being called from ppp-watch).
    • Sends the "daemon" parameter to device specific scripts.

Note! If you make an addition to initscripts using ppp-watch remember to make sure your device specific scripts support "daemon" or they will break horribly!

  • ip-up
    • The real device is sent as a second parameter to ifup-post.
  • ppp-watch.c
    • Patched to call ifup instead of ifup-ppp.
