As you might have suspected for some time, MooPlayer is no longer maintained. I've switched to using Linux as my primary OS. So I do not have any need for MooPlayer anymore. Although it's been nice seeing other people using it, I wrote it for my own personal benefit.
As the project has a GPL license anyone is free to continue where I left off. I'll be available for any questions you might have, but development no longer interests me. Sorry.
It's been a while since the last release but a new MooPlayer is finally here.
The biggest new feature is a complete rewrite of the full screen system. DirectX is no longer used for switching modes which gives increased stability and allows MooPlayer to remain full screen even when switching to another application.
Otherwise it's mostly bug fixes and tweaks. Read the change log for details.
A quick bug fix for the previous release. The COM system started to act up on my machine and MooPlayer kept having trouble opening files. A fix for this problem is now included in case someone else has run in to this.
Zoom function added and some modfications to the rendering engine and mouse handling. It should behave better now =)
Finally, I've managed to get this release finished. The main new features are subtitles support and a 'minimize to tray' function.
I haven't had much time to do any development on MooPlayer for a while now so development has stood pretty much still. I intend to resume it the moment I get some spare time.
Some of the features in the next version vill be:
- 2.25:1 aspect ratio.
- A minimize to tray function.
- Subtitles support.
In the meantime, use the forums to comment on the software. I don't know what you think of MooPlayer or what you want if you don't give me any feedback.
New features include a minimal windowed mode and some more property pages.
As you may or may not have noticed this site now has a
forum. All discussions about MooPlayer should be handled there. That includes bug reports, requests for new features or just general worship ;)
Bring out the mead! MooPlayer 1.0 has been released into the general populus [and there was much joy]!
New features include the ability to configure filters and a mouse pointer that disappears (finally!).
Bug fixes. Shuffle function added.
Mostly changes in the user interface in this release. Timer and loading text now displayed only when controls are visible. I've also added a title display which pops up when you start playing a media clip.
Playlists (ASX, M3U, PLS) are now supported. No other visible changes although a lot has been done to increase stability.
At last! MooPlayer's first public release! ;-)
It's still buggy but I think it works well enough to replace MPlayer. Try it out and give me some feedback.
After spending several days trying to figure out why the hell I couldn't get streaming to work I finally cracked it. Microsoft's CODEC was broken :-/
The old WM8 CODEC won't work with the VMR in Renderless mode for some reason. When I installed the newer WM9 CODEC however MooPlayer started working perfectly with streams.
Since MooPlayer now has most of the functionality of MPlayer I've decided to start preparing a public release. I'm going to reorganise the web pages a bit but it should be up in a matter of days.
Finally got support for multiple displays up and running. The drivers for my graphics card (Radeon 9700 PRO) are a bit buggy though so I haven't been able to test it as much as I'd like.
Support for Windows Media has been added. It was lost during the transition to DirectX 9 because of a redesign of the API by Microsoft.
Started this news section to keep you informed about the progress of MooPlayer.
As you may or may not know, DirectX 9 was released a few days ago. One of the new features was a Video Mixing Renderer that works on all Windows versions (well, 98 and above). This means that MooPlayer can know use quite a lot of hardware acceleration without getting tied to Windows XP. The new version is ~4 times faster than the old one. It does, however, put some more restrictions on your graphics card. Some work, some don't. I have yet to find a pattern to it. All newer cards should work though.
A public release of MooPlayer shouldn't be too far away now.
